Cellulite is not well-understood by many cosmetic physicians, let alone the medical profession at large. We have assembled some of the field’s leading researchers to provide you information you can trust regarding cellulite removal and the condition in general. The Patient’s Guide is published to give those with the condition a place where they can find physician-written information from industry experts.

  • Cellulite: Those not-so-cute dimples

Cellulite is something almost all women are familiar with and almost all will get at some point in their lives. It is estimated that 85% of all women will have cellulite before the age of forty. We know what cellulite is and what it looks like. It’s those dimples on our buttocks, or ‘cottage cheese’ thighs. The rippled appearance we are all-too familiar with is the result of fat cells bulging up against the skin as the fibers holding the fat (known as fibrous septae) become more rigged. That is what we understand about cellulite. What we don’t yet quite understand is why it develops in the first place or what causes it. What triggers these fibers to become rigid?

Why do women have cellulite more often than men?

We believe hormones may play a big part in the formation of cellulite, which may explain why women are more likely to form cellulite, though we don’t yet know what triggers this change in the skin.

    Preventing Cellulite

As we do not yet know why cellulite is triggered, there is no way to provide advice as to how to avoid or prevent cellulite. Thin and heavy people alike form cellulite, though it can seem more pronounced on looser skin.
